Learning French through music

Music is one of the basic and playful tools we can use to learn a language.

Studying French songs and lyrics improves the ability to learn the vocabulary, the sounds, and the rhythms of the French language.

Learning French through music for children

Repeating song’s lyrics like those from nursery rhymes helps children retain words and expressions.

I use simple French songs for children, French nursery rhymes, and original compositions introducing the basics of a French conversation

I sing along with the student or accompany them on the violin.

I use the body as a percussion to integrate the rhythms of the French language better.

We then identify the key words and start exploring them in very simple French sentences.

1, 2, 3, nous irons au bois

Savez-vous planter les choux

Promenons-nous dans les bois

Learning French through music for adults

We are able to remember expressions, words and ideas effectively when they are put to music.

I use a repertoire of classical French songs and songs the student would like to learn.

We listen to the song actively by singing along to the music, while practicing intonation, pronunciation and rhythm.

We look at the lyrics and review them line by line.

We identify the key words and start using them in a French conversation.

Practicing this way enhances the grammar, spelling, and pronunciation learning of the student.

La vie en rose - Edith Piaf

La Mer - Charles Trenet

Le temps de l'amour - Françoise Hardy

La bohème - Charles Aznavour
